Françoise Mézières

Françoise Mézières was born in Hanoï on June 18th 1909 , She studies in Paris to be a Masseur-physiotherapist and graduates from the French school of Orthopaedics and Massage in 1938. There she teaches anatomy, physiology and medical gymnastics. She is then totally convinced of the Orthodox Principles of the time...

In 1947, on a marvellous morning in spring, as Françoise Mézières tells herself, it will be the ¨découverte princeps¨ (by Françoise Mézières), the revelation that is at the basis of her method and its framework.

In 1949, she publishes her observations in a report…and with the title of “Revolution in orthopaedic gymnastics”. She gives up her teaching career and finalizes her method. In 1967, she gives herself a first lecture of her method at the “Centre homéopathique de France”. The first Mézières training sessions will be organised from 1967 onwards at Elle Island(Vendée) under the name of “return to morphological man through skilled re-education”.

On July 14th 1974, she establishes herself at Saint-Mont in the southwest and sets up the “Centre Mézières” where lessons are given.

In the early eighties, she receives the “Légion d’Honneur”. In 1983, in the wake of a major rift with her associate of that time, she quits the southwest, stops teaching and installs herself at Milly-la-Forêt.

In 1984, her book “Originalité de la Méthode Mézières” is published and she resumes teaching. Another few years go by until her death on October 17th 1991 caused by a long disease, much to the sadness of her students. Her ashes will be laid in the graveyard of Noisy-sur-Ecole(Seine et Marne).

Who are the “Mézièristes” nowadays ?

The “Mézièristes” are qualified physiotherapists who practise the Mézières method regularly after having learnt it from Françoise Mézières herself or from her former students who, with their own sensivity, perpetuates its teaching with a great sense of continuity and faithfulness. Thanks to them, Françoise Mézières’s message and works should never disappear!
